My brother Nathaniel threw a sequin dance party in his apartment, and halfway through he brought out a long strip of tulle netting, and the roomful of dancing people turned into a chaotic fabricked sweat cocoon. We are future butterflies.

I am watching every film Woody Allen directed, in chronological order. This image comes from The Purple Rose of Cairo, which I watched projected onto a white sheet in my apartment. I like that Jeff Daniels' character is expressing a grievance that is shared alike by deities, parents, artists, and unsanitary cooks.
